... The lease as you most likely know, has been granted to Stables Pizza Restaurant by the Kingtson 'Growth" Committee on 3rd February. This is so NOT what Kingston needs or wants to see happen. Protecting our cultural and heritage assets should be one of RBKs priorities, above economics. This is a short sighted move...
Residents and current occupiers are petitioning this plan, have given a lot of support on social media almost overnight with more than 1000 signing since last night alone with increasing concerns now it has been highlighted.
You can sign this petition if not on the committees involved. But more importantly, please don't let this pass change of use, grant planning for the interior alterations or grant an alcohol license.
Enough is enough. We cannot continue to sell off the family silver for such short term gain. The evidence for this change of use is pitiful and should the council put in a bit of effort in MARKETING the Market House, this could be one of the most successful assets RBK have. This is lazy and irresponsible.
Bring back the Tourist information and Visitor Centre, which Kingston First have unashamedly killed off, to this building where it belongs. There is a call for Kingston Historical Tours to be returned which should be operate from here too. More importantly help and support current occupiers, 40 small, local businesses selling British handmade products so that this historic landmark stays accessible to the local community and a platform for local businesses.
We want some accountability and we want this to be transparent.
Please, represent your constituents and speak against this decision and stand up for Kingston's heritage. REMEMBER there are 9 pizza chain restaurants in the immediate area and about 7,000sqm or more of chain restaurants about to come to the area - thanks to TOPO and EdenWalk regeneration plans!. If this goes ahead unchallenged this building would be lost to the public FOREVER!
