Dear Council
Planning application 16/12087 - Market House change of use to restaurant
I object to this application.
The Market House is the focal point and center piece of the ancient market, and of this Ancient Market Town. Its' role is to support and administer the activities of the market place. Its' value is difficult to quantify, but changing its use to a restaurant would defeat its role and would degrade the whole area. It would seriously undermine the historic character of the whole of the town center.
While the exterior fabric of the building would be unchanged by this application, the use would conflict with its original intended purpose and will be at odds with the design of the building. Its' setting will be damaged by the nature of restaurant activity being carried - which will be very evident: the large amount of exclusive served tables and areas outside, controlled entry, kitchen servicing and exhaust.
Other concerns include the loss of the original internal stair, loss of free public access, loss of an obvious home for tourist & historic information, loss of public amenities and loss of craft businesses. The biggest concern is the undermining and devaluing of the heart of our Royal Borough of Kingston's heritage.
Please listen to over 11,000 people who signed the petition against this and refuse this application.
