Late on Monday afternoon - the day before the meeting - we received a cancellation notice from Kingston Council.

Development Control Committee
Tuesday 23 June 2015 7:30 pm, CANCELLED
Given that the only item on the agenda was withdrawn, the Council decided to cancel the meeting... “We asked the Council to remove the planning application for The Old Post Office Site from the Development Control Committee agenda on 23 June 2015 while we consider our position”. |
The submission is still live
Please Note: St George asked for DEFERRAL not a WITHDRAWAL which means they can come back anytime in the near future with exactly the same design or similar with very small tweaks. Please be vigilant and follow all Council/St George and KRA communication on this matter.
Why?
We don't know why, but click here for our 'Making sense of the Decision Meeting withdrawal' blog post.
What we would have said
We are unable to go into details because this submission is still live.
We are disappointed, because we strongly believe the council could not have permitted this application and would have voted to REFUSE.
In the short 5 minutes available we would have put on record the planning and legal arguments from our expert opinions. We would have done so in a way that would make it difficult to overturn at appeal.
We are prepared and willing
Now that we have both planning and legal advice, we are ready to respond to the next move. However we hope to be invited to work with St George should the opportunity arise.
Next steps
We wait for St George to decide what to do next.
We would like the council to have a rethink on the Eden Quarter Brief.
We now want both parties to acknowledge residents deeply held beliefs and engage with them before it is too late.
